Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi have established themselves as one of screenwriting’s most versatile duos, moving fluidly between comedy, intimate drama, and large-scale action, sci-fi, and fantasy projects that feature their character-driven signature.
Most recently, they wrote the 2010 remake of CLASH OF THE TITANS, starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes. One of the year’s biggest hits, CLASH grossed nearly half a billion dollars worldwide.
The pair made their screenwriting debut in 2001 with the critically acclaimed and enduring drama CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL, starring Kirsten Dunst. Manfredi wrote and, with Hay, co-directed the 2002 comedy BUG, which won the Audience Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. In 2005 Hay and Manfredi wrote the science fiction epic AEON FLUX.
Next up for the team is Universal’s R.I.P.D. starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Robert Schwentke, as well as the Warner Brothers comedy STAYCATION for Todd Phillips, and THE BOYS, an adaptation of Garth Ennis’ darkly comic superhero tale to be directed by Adam McKay for Sony. Finally, Manfredi and Hay wrote and are producing the independent thriller THE INVITATION, to be directed by Karyn Kusama.
Hay and Manfredi both reside in Los Angeles with their families.
